If This Were Easy…

25K

Filed under: life, progress, victories, writing — Easy @ 11:41 pm

On a happier note, I had a Harlequin Committee meeting today with my writer’s group, and I had set a goal of 25K words by this meeting, which I met with only a tiny bit of scrambling this morning to finish the last 250 or so words.

I believe I’m the furthest along in the process, though some of the other members who were well into writing the last time I was able to make a meeting were not there tonight, so I’m not sure.

Small Victories: Uninvited Guests

Filed under: progress, victories — Easy @ 6:23 pm

My landlady’s daughter came by today with a contractor to look at installing a wheelchair lift and fixing the shower in my bathroom. I ran into her as I was leaving to go to the gym and she asked if they could take a look at the shower.

I did not panic. I did not run downstairs and try to hide the fact that I haven’t done dishes in days. I did not say ‘no’.

I just thought about the fact that my apartment, while not spotless, is certainly clean enough for company, smiled and said, ‘Sure, I’m on my way to the gym, but I’ll leave the door unlocked.”

Small Victories: Pants

Filed under: diet, progress, victories — Easy @ 1:38 pm

I put on a pair of my favorite pants today, and they fit noticeably looser than they did last time I wore them. Not quite as well as they did when I bought them in November, but still, that’s a few months worth of crappy living reversed!

Small Victory: Snatched out of the jaws of defeat…

Filed under: health, progress, victories, wall standing — Easy @ 4:15 pm

… or something like that.

I didn’t get a ticky mark for wall standing yesterday, because somewhere very late in my day, I realized that despite all the times I had thought to myself ‘I should go stand against the wall’, it didn’t actually happen.

That said, I did still stand against the wall twice before I went to bed, and for me, that’s a victory of sorts. I have a tendency to be very ‘all or nothing’ about things.

‘So, you had chocolate cake for lunch? Well, you might as well have chocolate cake for dinner, too, since you’ve screwed up already!’ my inner demon likes to say in moments like these.

It would have been easier to declare that since I wasn’t going to stand against the wall three times in 2 hours, that standing against the wall was a waste of time, but I did it twice anyway. And while it’s not quite ticky-mark level victory, 2 out of 3 ain’t bad.

Small Victories: Stairs

Filed under: curves, health, progress, victories — Easy @ 9:00 am

On the weekend, before the Cirque du Soleil show, we parked at Richmond & Victoria for dinner then walked a few blocks to the Air Canada Center for the circus.

One the way back, we had to walk up two long sets of stairs to get off the floor of the ACC to ground level. Then, we walked the several blocks back to Richmond & Victoria. Then, we walked up two flights of stairs to get back to the car.

At the end of all of that, I was only moderately winded, rather than gasping for breath.

This gym thing is clearly helping.
