If This Were Easy…

Filed under: brushing, personal care — Easy @ 7:51 pm

So, I’m needing more new toothpaste again. This brushing your teeth twice a day every day uses the stuff up at an alarming rate.

I’ve always found most toothpaste way too minty — I don’t love that artificial hot/cold feeling taken to an extreme degree — and too sweet and too filled with SLS. I tried the baking soda version from Arm & Hammer, but that’s made me smell metal all the time and think constantly that I have a bloody nose, so I’m not in love with it, either.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a not-too-minty, not-too-sweet, not-too-full-of-SLS, not-too-metallic toothpaste? I don’t ask for much, right?

  1. I use Tom’s All Natural Toothpaste. It doesn’t have the super scary mint or the weird chemical taste of baking soda. It did really freak me out at first that it is beige in colour.

  2. There are a number of brands that have flavors of toothpaste that are more of the citrus variety now. I first got turned on to them when I was in Ireland and ran out of the paste I brought, so I had to buy some. I imagine some sort of brand in the stores would have a citrus-y flavor that you might like. for instance, I’m not sure if they’re available in Canada, but I know for sure Aquafresh and Crest brands have such flavors that are too minty and definitely don’t give that “burn” in your mouth with a minty type flavor.

    hope this helps!!

  3. Arr, I’ve been out of town and missed reading for a bit, but I second the recommendation for Tom’s of Maine. They have both non-mint AND non-SLS stuff. I use a fennel toothpaste that has neither right now, though I don’t have anything against the foaming of SLS. They also do a mango something-or-other, and their mint toothpastes are not sweet.

I’m a huge fan of the company. I’ve used their deodorant as well for years ever since I found out that most commercial things use aluminum to irritate and swell your sweat glands shut to eliminate odor. wtf.
