If This Were Easy…

If you’re going to snooze…

Filed under: life, progress, snooze — Easy @ 9:27 am

I couldn’t sleep last night. First I stayed up late and watched Numb3rs on Showcase, then I got caught up in what I was doing while I watched Numb3rs on Showcase, so it was really late when I went to bed. Also, it got hot in here all of a sudden around midnight and while I could have turned on the air conditioning, that would have involved walking up 3 flights of stairs, which would have made me extra-not sleepy and been very loud, as well. Plus, I drank a lot of water and ate a lot of watermelon yesterday, so I had to get up twice to pee.

By the time my alarm went off at 8 this morning, I’d probably had less than 2 hours of actual sleep. So I changed it to 9. When it went off at 9, I changed it to 10. When it went off at 10, I still couldn’t face the world, so I hit the snooze button once before I got up.

Clearly I should have practiced non-snoozing on the weekend like I’d planned.

  1. Is it bad that I read your links on how to not snooze and figured that looked like an incredible amount of work. Generally the suggestion was NOT to put an alarm clock across the bedroom…. instead to practice… I’m thinking of putting the alarm clock across the bedroom.

  2. I’ve done the alarm clock across the room thing before. All it did was improve my skills at crossing my room with my eyes closed.

In the short term, I’m also thinking of trying out using my cell phone alarm instead of or in addition to my clock radio. Phone calls at night freak me the hell out (phone calls in the middle of the day cause mild anxiety, so you can imagine what phone calls at night do), and that works for ones that wake me up in the morning, too. I figure if my phone rings, I’ll nearly have a heart attack and then I’ll have to get up.

I’d guess I’ll adapt to that relatively quickly, but it might help for a few days. And as a side-effect, it might cure that whole ‘phone calls giving me heart attacks’ thing.
